Scrounger's Whittleworks

Built by Hand.
Made for Life.

Scrounger's Whittleworks was born out of a desire to create functional, heirloom-quality wooden goods that showcase the natural beauty of the material.

The Craftsman

Hi, I'm Calvin. I'm a maker, a craftsman, and the founder of Scrounger's Whittleworks. Based out of the Kalamazoo Makers space in Michigan, I spend my days turning rough-sawn local hardwoods into functional art.

My background isn't traditional woodworking. I actually started in the tech world: computer programming and custom PC building. But over time, I found myself drawn to the tangible, physical reality of working with wood. There's a specific kind of satisfaction in taking a raw, unpredictable material and applying precision, patience, and heavy machinery to turn it into something perfectly functional.

I am a firm believer that things should be built to last. I don't use epoxy resins to cut corners or mass-produce cheap trinkets. Whether it's a massive edge-grain cutting board, a precision-cut set of coasters, or a complex Game Night Box, every single piece that leaves my shop is crafted with intention and designed to be used heavily for decades.

Our Philosophy

No Epoxy Pours

We let the natural grain and character of the wood speak for itself. We don't hide it under layers of colored plastic.

Function First

A cutting board that can't take a knife is just a heavy plate. Our goods are built rugged, heavy, and meant to be used.

Locally Sourced

We source premium rough-sawn lumber from local Michigan hardwood dealers like Wolverine and RSL Hardwoods.
